We are saddened to annouce the recent passing of David Elsdon who was the groundsman at the Old Alleynians sports ground for 43 years until 2007.
His funeral will be conducted on 16th of September starting from Kingshill House, Dursley, Gloucestershire, at 13:00.
From his son (John) Duncan Elsdon:
My father made many great friends through his role of groundsman and Vice President of the club. Could you please circulate this sad news to the members past and present and see whether one or more representatives of the club would like to attend my father’s funeral. If so, could you please ask them to drop me an email (via info@oarfc.club) so that i can keep them informed of any last minutes changes. In place of any floral tributes, my father requested that donations are made to Dursely and District Good Neighbour Scheme of which he and my mother have run and supported since their respective retirements.

Apparently Jix, the Alsatian shown in the portrait with my father, was well known in the local rugby scene as the dog that collected the flag poles after the matches on Saturdays.

Also, please find the bank details for the charity that my father supported by volunteering as both a driver and coordinator throughout his retirement:

FYI, thanks to your kind efforts, Ditch Boultbee has contacted me and confirmed that he will be attending my father’s funeral. He knew my father very well, and remembers me as a child, so I am sure there will be plenty to talk about.
