Utrechtse Rugby Club Select XV 41-29 Old Alleynians Tourists (after a 150 mile cycle)
Last weekend an intrepid group from our 4th team took part in an Adventure to the Netherlands.
Starting from the OAs clubhouse they cycled from Dulwich through London and Essex to Harwich on the Thursday, a total of 95 miles (or slightly longer for those who took a detour to the non-existent crossing). This not being enough after a short sleep on the ferry to Hook of Holland they were back on the bikes again the next morning to cycle across Holland to Utrecht, with support in the way of food, drinks and general encouragement being provided by a prop in a white van.
A fun and deserved night out was had in Utrecht to offer the ideal pre-match preparation for Saturday's game. Unfortunately for the OAs they weren't able to claim victory in the rugby, losing 41-29, but a good showing was definitely made by both teams in the "third half" which is what counts.
Much fun was had by all and a big congratulations should be given to Ed Prendeville, 4th Team Captain, for making all this happen.
