Earlier this summer a group of 35 senior’s players and supporters from OAs braved the wild west of Luton Airport to travel to the Mediterranean island of Malta, a location that’s seen a number of OAs visits over the decades.

In and amongst the sun-bathing and team-bonding, OAs took part in a one-day tournament organised by the Malta RFU. A round robin format played in baking conditions that exacerbated dehydration issues, the tournament comprised OAs, Tottonians RFC, Aklam RFC, a Malta representative side, and fellow South London side Battersea Ironsides RFC.

A number of highly competitive fixtures ensured with OAs winning three and losing one fixtures, eventually resulting in OA winning the tournament on points difference. Tour captain and 1st XV cap centurion Tom Shanahan collected the trophy that now sits behind the bar in the clubhouse. A fantastic and highly successful tour for all involved.
